ISSUE: ONE. Other Campaigns

D-PAN, the Deaf Professional Arts Network took John Mayer's song "Waiting on the World to Change" and adds a twist. The song its self has an underlying message of hope even though it also centers around the generations inaction due to lack of power and corruption of leaders. He believes, however, that as our generation becomes more powerful, the world will change.
When John Mayer preformed this song in 2007 at Live Earth, he changed the lyrics to "we're NOT waiting on the world to change."
When describing this song, Mayer said ""It’s saying, ‘Well, I’ll just watch American Idol because I know that if I were engaged in changing anything for the better, or the better as I see it, it would go unnoticed or be completely ineffective.' A lot of people have that feeling."

ISSUE: ONE. Google Video

Google put out this great video on Thursday that captured a lot of things we have been talking about in this blog so far. The only difference is that this is from Google searches. It's amazing how most searches accurately portray what is going on internationally. It starts with the European debt crisis, moves on to the earthquakes in China and Haiti and then moves on to more positive notes. It really is amazing to see 2010 recapped through Google searches. It just goes to show that what you search is noticed.

ISSUE: ONE. Following Bono

The ONE campaign has been following their founder, Bono while his band toured all across the globe. In every country members of the ONE campaign came out to raise awareness and have people join the team. They have teeshirts, wristbands, and most importantly, petitions. New members that sign up also had their picture taken with a member of ONE kissing them on the cheek as part of ONE's "The Future Needs a Big Kiss" campaign which fits in with the theme of embracing the future. U2 is using these pictures during part of their show so people will actually get to see themselves on screen on stage.

The ONE Campaign is dedicated to getting people to "Act Now," and do whatever they can do to help the issues that our world is facing. When visiting the website, there is an Act Now tab that allows people to get involved. Not only is there a way to find out what is going on in your local community, but ONE presents three options of how to help.

1) The first option is Lobby Congress:Constituents reaching out to their representatives are the most powerful lobbyists. You can write a letter, make a call and hopefully plan a visit.

2) Another option is Engage Local Media: Media attention builds our movement and ensures our issues get attention. You can write a letter-to-the-editor as well as declare a ONE city/state.

3) The third option the organization lists deals with Recruiting and Organizing: Expand the movement and mobilize your community. This step includes doing such things as hosting or attending an event, wearing ONE gear, or even organizing an on campus campaign.

Lastly, raising awareness and spreading the word about ONE's goals is another way to help the cause. Use your voice and Act Now.

ISSUE: ONE. Christian Rock Band to Join ONE.

Nowadays, Christian Rock may not be the first genre you'd list as your favorite type of music, but many bands, like Evanesence, have been extremely popular in the past, while most of the public doesn't even realize their Christian Rock aspects.

Recently, ONE interviewed the band Sanctus Real, who will join in on ONE's fight.

A link to the interview can be found here.

ISSUE: ONE. Targeting Youth

ONE makes it their goal to appeal to students like all of us to help make a difference. The youth of our generation has the power to raise awareness and make a change in our world. With members of ONE on every campus including Penn State, ONE is sweeping the nation's society of young adults and using their ideas and helping hands to prevent poverty and better the lives of others. ONE is making it our obligation to build a better future.

Here is another PSA involving celebrities as the spokesmen for ONE. They are attracting the youth by using celebrities that star in popular TV shows watched by young adults including Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill. Take a Look!

ONE was able to present a video at the 2008 UN Summit. They decided to make a video about the Millennium Development Goals that 189 nations signed onto in 2000. At the time there were 7 years, now just 5, left until 2015 and there is still a lot of work to be done. This video was made to remind all the nations of the commitments they made.

Celebrate. Accelerate. Innovate.

ISSUE: ONE. Celebrity PSA's

ONE likes to feature the help of their celebrity supporters in their fight to raise awareness. Multiple campaigns have been made recently including one by Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, George Clooney, Penelope Cruz, P. Diddy, Susan Surandon, Leighton Meister and more.

Here is one, check it out. (Another one is shown on an earlier post about ONE's media use)
